Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours recently opened their new reception office and retail space in Cape Tribulation (Far North Queensland, Australia). Situated right on the main road just north of PK's Resort, it's a venue with a slithery twist ... the Snake House has a collection of pythons and local snakes for visitor viewing.
The Snake House makes use of a pre-existing venue which was originally constructed for display of snakes and reptiles and is intended by Jungle Surfing as a pickup and greeting point for visitors to their attraction.
"The Snake House is the new central pick up point for Jungle Surfing customers and offers a small collection of native live snakes on display, tour bookings and local information, gorgeous unique gifts from around Australia, Jungle Surfing merchandise and souvenirs, plus coffees and cold drinks."
The reptiles are maintained and handled by local registered reptile experts and provide a unique point of interest. Not every booking office has an in-house display of serpents which visitors can get up close and friendly with.
The venue also includes retail space for works by selected local artisans ... including work from myself. Initially, the shop has taken a couple of bowl forms, some salad servers and cocktail muddlers. I have made the items expressly for Snake House using timbers found in the local Cape Tribulation region and which have come from 'eco' sources ... recycled, salvaged or sustainably forested ... which I think is appropriate to the World Heritage Listed Daintree rainforests region.
Entry to the Snake House is free and open to anyone, not just Jungle Surfing visitors. Say hi to Adam or Misha ... oh, and you can get real coffee there.
