I first shaped this piece in 2004 with the intention of creating a functional salad bowl ... but, was never really entirely happy with the idea. I recently decided to re-shape the profile and give it a much smaller 'arty' base and finish it as a fine bowl.
Since I am consciously trying to move my work to more tall format pieces, I was happy that this piece presented a higher profile than most of my other current work. I'm also experimenting a bit with applied finishes, so black lacquer treatment seemed like a good idea. I was very happy with the result.
