I cut the wood that this piece was created from in 2003 from a wind-fallen tree on the property I was living on at the time. I had never used Beefwood before, but the colour and grain was outstanding. I shaped a couple of pieces straight away but, due to the high sap content, they took two years to dry enough to continue working with. The wait, however, was worth it. This is only a small piece, but has a lovely shape and deep rich maroon colorings. The wood is very hard and finished up to a really nice satin sheen. I retained a little section of natural edge along one side to add some texture, whilst most of the rim is smooth-formed. This is a very elegant little bowl.
