Finish: Hand rubbed oil | gloss

This piece originated in a one inch thick piece of Jarrah which I was cutting up into utensils. Most of the board was straight-grained, making it ideal for utensil making.

However, the end of the board ran off into what must have been a branch or fork and the grain became much more crowned and took on some nice colour variation. I decided it was too nice to keep turning into stirrers, so this flat wavey bowl was the result.

Jarrah is quite fine-grained, so finishes very nicely. It seemed appropriate to take the finish (rubbed oil) through to a full gloss in order to highlight the colour variation which may have been lost in a matte or stain finish.
